Biomechanical Motion AnalysisAnyone who participates in sports is susceptible to overuse injuries secondary to poor biomechanics. Atlanta Rehabilitation offers video biomechanical analysis to ensure your complete recovery and safe return to your sport

What is Biomechanical Motion Analysis?

Video of Running Gait for AnalysisVideo gait analysis allows a physical therapist to look at a patient’s movements frame-by-frame to identify faulty movement patterns that may be contributing to pain and poor performance.

Prior to the video analysis, a full functional movement assessment is performed to identify any neurological or musculoskeletal issues that may contribute to faulty gait patterns.

Video of the patient walking or running is taken from posterior, side and anterior views. The video is then analyzed with Dartfish software, which allows the physical therapist to analyze movement frame-by-frame and take any measurements for comparison. This is done with the patient present so the patient can see what they are doing and what biomechanics they may need to improve. The therapist will then give recommendations and any exercises and drills for improving biomechanics/performance.

The analysis is performed by an Atlanta Rehab physical therapist who specializes in gait biomechanics, running injuries/treatments, and techniques to improve running form and efficiency.

Who would benefit from a Biomechanical Motion Analysis?

  • Anyone experiencing pain with walking or running
  • Anyone wanting to determine which shoes or orthotics are most appropriate for them
  • Runners who may want to improve their form, efficiency, and improve race times
  • Runners who want to prevent running injuries before they increase mileage
  • Amputees who feel limited with their walking/running, or who may want to begin running, run easier, etc.

Cost?

If the patient requires the assessment due to pain or injury, or due to a gait disturbance, some insurances will cover part of the cost with a physician’s script. The patient and physician will receive a full report with recommendations. Videos of the assessment can also be emailed to physicians upon request. If the patient would like an assessment for injury prevention or to improve form/efficiency, the cost is as follows:

Full initial assessment (1.5 – 2 hours)       $150.00

Follow-up (1/2 hour)                                  $50.00
